The purpose of an environmental hygiene audit is to ensure that good hygiene standards are maintained and procedures are performed in the correct manner. The audit will be done without prior notice, on a regular agreed basis.
A written report will be issued to the facility and service provider with recommendations for remediation. Copies of the report will be sent to hospital management, the cleaning site manager and to Quality Leadership IPC coordinators and can be used as part of the review process for renewing cleaning companies’ contracts.
A combined action plan is to be submitted by the cleaning site manager and hospital management for all non-compliant items, with due dates, closure dates and responsible persons indicated.
The audit will be done quarterly by the hospital IPP; the cleaning contractor’s site manager must accompany her.
This audit should include observations of all shifts. The audit should also take a minimum of 4 hours and be spread over one week.
